Classic Pilaf

Ingredients:
3 cups rice
600-700 g meat (beef, lamb, or pork)
3 onions
3 carrots
50-70 g vegetable oil
3-5 heads of garlic (whole or separated into cloves)
1 tbsp More Specij Pilaf Seasoning

Instructions:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or cauldron over medium heat. Add the meat and fry until it turns golden brown on all sides.
  2. Once the meat is browned, add the sliced onions and the carrots cut into strips.
  3. Pour in enough hot water to cover the meat and vegetables. Add salt and the pilaf seasoning. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 1 hour.
  4. Rinse the rice in cold water several times to remove excess starch. After the meat and vegetables have simmered, add the rice on top. Pour in hot water until it covers the rice by about 2 cm. Do not stir the mixture.
  5. Place the whole garlic heads or separated cloves into the centre of the rice. Gently press them down without stirring the pilaf.
  6. Cover the pot with a lid, reduce the heat to low, and cook for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and the liquid has been absorbed.
  7. Once the pilaf is done, remove the pot from the heat. Stir the rice gently, incorporating the meat and vegetables.
